Each year the first year WUDPAC conservation fellows adopt an object in need of a better storage solution. Emily chose an inkwell from H.F. DuPont's personal archive housed within the Winterthur Library, under the care of archivist Heather Clewell.
After discussion with Heather Clewell and visiting the storage space, Emily designed a new storage box and made a mock-up out of brown paper.
Inkwell in custom clamshell box.
Key features:
--spaced foam supports on base to more evenly distribute the weight of the heavy inkwell
--clamshell box design with foldout front so that the inkwell can be viewed without having to remove it from the box

Additional supports were added to the inside of the lid so that the inkwell's lid can be safely opened for observation in the box. The box lid hooks onto an Ethafoam wedge glued to the back of the box to provide a stable wall.
