As part of my conservation treatment, I planned to print a high quality, almost full-scale image of the dummy board partially cleaned. The Germantown Historical Society curator thought this was a great idea to have on view while the beloved object is being treated. She is excited about its promotional value for conservation and for GHS. This has been an excellent curator-conservator partnership! The proof of this printout is currently on display as a didactic in the Winterthur paintings studio
A didactic panel I produced for the Winterthur Paintings Studio, which exposes the multiple glazing layers needed to achieve different wood finishes. (Left to right: oak, mahogany, walnut, maple, cherry)
Explanation of the materials and key tools used to imitate each grain on the didactic panel. The trompe l'oeil boarder was achieved using a modern acrylic paint system. This information was laminated and posted with the panel.
