This project required different areas of expertise and was carried out in consultation with easel painting conservators, painted surface specialists, furniture conservators, conservation scientists, curators, and panel painting specialists
Treatment Summary:
- varnish reduction/ cleaning and overpaint removal
- loss compensation with hide glue and kaolin putty
- removal of old fill material in proper right thumb and replacement with Araldite epoxy for greater strength
- application of isolating varnish
- Selective inpainting over filled losses
- Toning over old reconstructions
